Your Doctor Works for YOU!Written by Jean Slatter

I am a Natural Health Practitioner and many of my clients come to me frustrated with the results they have received from conventional medicine. Fortunately the type of client I attract is one who feels their health and well-being is their responsibility and are searching for answers to help their body do the healing, which by the way, is the ONLY one way healing takes place. Healing can be facilitated by others but ultimately your body has to do the healing.

But then there are some clients that lament about the side effects they are experiencing from the medications that have been prescribed by their doctor and feel they “have to” follow the doctor’s advice as if his word is law. Rather than following the doctor’s advice blindly remember that no one knows you better than you and you are in charge of your body and what goes into it. Doctors are there to give advice – just like a financial adviser or any other such counsellor – but you are the boss. The doctor works for you!

I saw in the national news a couple months ago the coverage of a young teenager with cancer who did not want the chemo or radiation, nor did his mother want to force it on him. The family tried to race to another state, was caught, and returned. The judge ordered that the boy must receive the standard medical treatments. Neither the boy or his family had a choice in the matter. So much for the Constitution! What does it mean to be an American if you cannot make up your mind for yourself and take responsibility for your own health?

I was going to comment on the topic but I think Greg, you are kind of going off little bit. The “young teenager” was a minor and is considered not competent to make their own decisions. However, if his/her own mother decided the child did not need the treatment, then that is BEYOND crossing the line and I am afraid that “maintenance” drugs like Lipitor and Zoloff will be forced upon us some day in the future.

My point in agreement with Jean’s point is that we patients need to do our own research since EVERYONE in America can go to a library and have internet access. I used to sell Oxygen to Doctor’s. Most did not do any further learning because they were so overwhelmed.

We have GOT to be an Active Particpant in our own outstanding health 🙂
